7 Things Tips to Take Care of Yourself Before the Holiday Madness Begins by Shonna Kaldwell

We all know what a stressful holiday season we have approaching. It is more important NOW than ever to take care of yourself so that you're feeling your best and not running on empty. Get your mind, body and spirit revitalized with these seven tips, and be ready to tell holiday stress goodbye.
1. Begin a detox program.
Many consider this a spring thing; however, fall is actually a great time to detox to get the body in optimal working order. It's also the best time to honor the lungs and large intestine, organs that breathe new life into us, flush out toxins, and support our emotional health. Many of us experience lower mood levels in the darker months. A cleanse can help lift our energy, and prepare us for the shorter days ahead. It can also help kick a sugar habit, especially right after Halloween. I recommend the Ultimate Reset from Beachbody.
2. Organize your closets.
Isn’t this a spring cleaning th3. Make soups, stews and chili.
These are great for football games, cool evenings, and dinner parties. They also can be the perfect end to a busy day. Use seasonal ingredients such as squash, potatoes, onions, and root vegetables to support your body in transitioning from summer to winter. Soups and stews are easy to prepare and digest. Using your crockpot saves even more time. And there are usually leftovers, so you can cook once and eat twice!
4. Get outside and enjoy.
Before long it will be getting too cold for many outdoor activities. Take advantage and embrace some outdoor activity without the heat of summer. A run, walk, hike or bike ride in the sun can feel oh-so-good this time of year. Whatever you enjoy, I encourage you to get outside and do it!
5. Sign up for a cooking class.

Bored with your old recipes? Going gluten free or vegan and don’t know what to eat? Sign up for a cooking class this fall, and learn to make some new dishes to add to your weeknight menu.
6. Change up your breakfast.
Do you eat the same old thing every day, or skip breakfast? Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day and sets you up for your energy for the day. If done right, it stabilizes blood sugar. If you need to, get up a few minutes earlier and try something different. With the cooler mornings, a hot breakfast for you and your family might be just the thing to shift your energy and start the day off right.
7. Meditate daily.
If you are already meditating regularly, that’s wonderful! You already know the wonderful benefits to daily meditation. If you're just dabbling, or have never meditated, now is the time to try. Meditation has incredible benefits for our mood, energy, focus, concentration, stress level, decision-making ability, and so much more. We’re all so busy, especially this time of year. Take time to slow down, get grounded, and get in touch with yourself. You’ll be surprised and amazed at what comes out of getting quiet for a short time each day.
3. Know your body.

How many times have you eaten something only to feel bloated afterward? When you feel this way, it is your body telling you that it doesn’t like what you just ate and it’s having problems digesting the food. Write it down, you'll soon discover a pattern.

4. Detox.

This is the next thing you want to do in gaining the motivation to only choose foods that are good for you and stay away from the ones that inflame you. An added bonus is that you'll naturally lose some pounds. 5. Stick to whole foods.

Eating organic or gluten-free foods doesn't automatically mean that you're eating whole foods. Crackers, granola, cookies and protein bars labeled as "healthy" are still processed foods and often high in sugar. Eating clean is the best choice no matter how you look at it.

6. Use the 90-10 rule.

Select healthy options 90% of the time and indulge a little the other 10% of the time. And do this without guilt!

7. When it comes to your plate, use the 80-20 rule.

Your plate should be proportioned with 80% vegetables and 20% lean protein or complex carbohydrate. Don't worry, you'll be satisfied and nourished.

8. Manage your emotions.

Using a diary is a good way to be aware of your emotions and of patterns. Meditating is a good way also. Holding intense feelings in can lead to emotional eating and cravings.

9. Exercise because you love it.

Find an exercise that feels great to you and is fun to do. You don’t have to follow the current trend. If it isn’t fun, then you won’t be able to stick with it. When you find the right activity, you'll fall in love with it, and that will guarantee you'll be consistent.

10. Own your worth.
Looking sexy comes from feeling it first. Love your body, honor and take good care of it. Don’t be afraid to pamper yourself and be proud of your beauty. Beauty starts from within, so taking care of your inside, both emotionally, spiritually, and nutritionally will ensure that your beauty will glow from without.
